We had the perfect saturday . . . it started out with dad making us go berry picking. He had seen a "U-Pick" place, near Orting. So after my family had dragged me out of bed, (I was still in recovery from a late night sleep over with a friend,) we go off to this farm with a raspberry field. The only thing is, they're closed. Long story short, dad went over to Mr. Shultz's farm, to ask if he knew of any you pick places. (My dad knows him because he has done some lawyer work for him.) Mr. Shultz told us we could pick at his fields, because the crew wasn't going to be able to come that day. He gave us a good deal per box, and we set to it.
Dad was something of a slave-driver . . . he used to pick berries for a job each summer when he was a boy. Well, we picked eighteen flats, which means eighteen boxes that each hold six of those little green carton things. It was all very fun though, and afterwards we went to a park and had a picnic lunch (with raspberries!) Then the girls went across the street to a farmer's market. The only thing was, they were closing up by the time we got there. We managed to look at the jewelry for quite awhile though. ;-)
After a short visit with Grandparents, we kids talked mom and dad into taking us to swim at a lake, and some friends met us their. It was absolutely wonderful, after spending all morning picking berries and getting sunburned. We spent the rest of the day swimming, and then went home with our friends to their house, where we had dinner together. It was an awesome day.
We went home tired, sunburned, and my eyes were driving me nuts. But it was totally worth it.
